Book Review: ‘If You Were Me and Lived in… India’ by Carole P. Roman

An enriching learning experience…

If You Were Me and Lived in India, Carole P. Roman

I recently had the pleasure of reading If You Were Me and Lived in… India. This is the most recent storybook from the If You Were Me and Lived in… children’s book series by author, Carole P. Roman. If You Were Me and Lived in… India is definitely not my normal reading genre; however, having interviewed Roman several months ago, I was quite interested in seeing/reading at least one of her literary works.

With that said, If You Were Me and Lived in… India was a very cute read that has the ability to capture a child’s imagination in a fun manner. While it is a storybook (meant to provide children with entertainment) this book also provides factual information about the county of India as well as the people who reside there. If You Were Me and Lived in… India is written for a child’s perspective, which means it is not overladen with too much information.

The story is fun; providing educational tidbits in an interesting manner. The illustrations are engaging, and I appreciated the pronunciation guide located at the back of the book. I suspect most children (and their parents) will be grateful for it as well. My only criticism (and one that is easily rectified) is the error found within the pronunciation guide. The pronunciation provided for “Maharanis” is the same as what is given for “Maharajas.”

In summary, If You Were Me and Lived in… India was an informative and fun read that young children will be able to enjoy. This storybook has the ability to spark a child’s imagination and it shows them a country outside of their own. The If You Were Me and Lived in… series is also a wonderful way to help broaden your child’s knowledge and understanding about the huge world in which they live.
