Author, Abigail Owen with a Character Interview from her Svatura Series @AOwenBooks

Svatura%20TwoDesmond (Dez) is one of the Vyusher. He is the son of a high ranking councilman and a longtime friend of Queen Selene’s.

*This interview was conducted after Hyacinth.

You have a very athletic build. Do you work out?

These days I do, because we’re held so closely to the castle for safety. But usually I keep in shape with sports. I guess you could say I’m an adrenaline junkie. I enjoy skiing, surfing, skydiving. Anything that gets the heart pumping.

Why do you call Griffin the wrong name all the time?

I love to see that guy twitch. He’s so serious all the time, I figure it doesn’t hurt to lighten him up a bit.

Do you love Selene?Svatura%20Three

We’ve been friends most of our lives. I love her like I would any close friend or maybe a sister. I respect her. I believe in her. I think she’s amazing—everything she’s been through with her family. But if you’re asking am I in love with her? No, I’m not.

But you proposed?

I know we would do well together. We like each other, respect each other. And, given who my family is, I thought I could help save her crown. I believe she’s meant to be Queen of our people.

Okay…so there’s no one you’re interested in? Are you going to wait to find your te’sorthene?

I’ve lived a long time by human standards, and only a short while by my people’s, but I’ve seen very little evidence that we each find a te’sorthene early in life. No I don’t plan to wait. I plan to live my life while I have it. And no, there is no one I’m interested in.

Svatura%20FourWhy do you think Selene should rule the Vyusher?

Of all of us, only she knew what was happening, and yet she remained. She found the strength to defy her brother. Alone. Her blood gives her right by inheritance. Her actions give her right by proof.

What’s it like to turn invisible?

In a word…creepy. It’s suffocating feeling, as if you’re under a wet blanket that weighs you down and keeps any air from getting in. I can’t say I like it, but it sure comes in handy.
